Head of Category - Food (20392)

The Role:

We are seeking a highly experienced commercial individual to lead our Food Buying Team and help deliver our Food Transformation Strategy. Working with the Group Growth and Food Director, the Head of Food Buying will be responsible for delivering the Food Business Unit strategy and new product propositions that align with our health and wellness mission and values. It's a huge opportunity to help transform the team, category, and ways of working. A growth mindset is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • P&L accountability ensuring financial and customer targets are delivered.
  • Developing and delivering a customer centric food category plan that aligns with the buying and brand ethos of the business.
  • Deliver strong, sustainable supplier relationships.
  • Working with the global food product development team to identify new and emerging brands, categories and propositions that deliver first to market customer centric product innovation and services.
  • Managing the full product lifecycle through data driven category reviews, to agreed financial KPI's and timescales.
  • Leading, developing and coaching the Food Buying team.

Location: Flexible / London or Nunation office based. The employee will be occasionally expected to travel to Nuneaton.

The Person:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in food trading, recent Food Retail experience is essential, Direct to Consumer and International experience is an advantage.
  • Proven leadership and stakeholder management experience in a fast-paced commercial environment.
  • A collaborative and can-do approach is essential.
  • Highly numerate and analytical with experience of delivering commercial targets.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Previous experience of delivering strategy and budget management in a retail environment. Experience in managing multiple direct reports and indirectly influencing supporting functions.
  • Understanding of sourcing and procuring high-quality, sustainable and healthy food products that meet the nutritional needs of customers.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations.
  • A personal interest in food innovation and excellent knowledge of global food trends is essential.
